“Everyone thinks of changing the world, but no one thinks of changing himself.” Leo Tolstoy
When big things shift, small routines provide stability. What changes are you navigating this February?
I have found that in times of uncertainty, particularly illness and death, making a cup of tea has kept me steady. The magic of tea and problem-solving, it’s almost legendary! There’s something about tea that makes it feel like a secret tool for untangling life’s knots. It’s probably the pause that makes it so effective, a mini ritual of the boiling and gathering. It stops the mind spinning.
Just like routines, tea is comforting. It’s something stable in a changing or stressful moment, reminding your brain: I can handle this. That small sense of control opens up creative thinking and problem solving.
So while big changes remove uncertainty, small routines give it back. To keep influence over your day during turbulent change, you might want to try waking up at the same time each day. You could make your bed, walk the same route or even journal for just 5 minutes. These small anchors keep us grounded when everything feels heavy.
In February, a short 4-week writing course Navigating Change opens up in the WriteWell Community. At the end of the course you’ll have created your own personal action plan outlining steps you aim to take to navigate change in your life.
Why not give it a try and let us know how it worked out for you?
